The Padmanabhapuram Palace, also known as Kalkulam Palace, is a historic palace located in Padmanabhapuram, near Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. It was the former capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Travancore and is now maintained by the Kerala Government.
The palace is a fine example of traditional Kerala architecture, with intricate wood carvings, beautiful murals, and unique structural designs. Constructed around 1601 CE by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal, it was later rebuilt by King Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma in 1750.
The palace complex includes several notable structures such as the Mantrashala (King's Council Chamber), Nataksala (Performance Hall), and Thai Kottaram (Mother's Palace)
The palace has been converted into a museum, showcasing various artifacts and exhibits related to the history and culture of the Travancore kingdom
