Gandhi Mandapam
The Gandhi Mandapam in Kanyakumari is a memorial park dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. It is located near the Kumari Amman Temple and the sea shore.
The memorial was built to honor Gandhi, who visited Kanyakumari twice, in 1925 and 19371. After his death in 1948, his ashes were kept here for public darshan before being immersed in the sea.
The memorial is designed in the Orissa architectural style and features a 79-foot tall pink portico. One of the unique aspects of the memorial is that on October 2nd, Gandhi's birthday, the sun's rays fall directly on the spot where his ashes were kept.
