The Bhagavathi Amman Temple, also known as the Kumari Amman Temple, is one of the most sacred temples in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. The temple is situated on the southernmost tip of mainland India, offering stunning views of the ocean.
The presiding deity is Goddess Devi Kanyakumari, also known as Bhagavathi Amman. She is considered a manifestation of the goddess Parvati. The temple is over 3000 years old and is one of the 108 Shakti Peethas, where parts of the goddess Shakti's body are believed to have fallen.
According to legend, the temple was built by Lord Parasurama to honor the goddess who defeated the demon Banasura.
