Ooty Lake is a beautiful artificial lake located near Ooty in the Nilgiris district of Tamil Nadu, India. The lake was constructed by John Sullivan in 1824 by damming the water flowing down mountain streams in the Ooty valley. It was originally intended for fishing and transportation across the lake.
The lake covers an area of about 26 hectares (64 acres). One of the main attractions at Ooty Lake is boating. The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation operates a boathouse offering various boating options, including paddle boats, row boats, and motorboats1.
The lake is surrounded by eucalyptus trees and greenery, making it a picturesque spot for visitors. There's also a mini-train, an amusement park, and pony rides available for added fun.
During the summer season, boat races and boat pageantry are organized as part of the Summer Festival in Ooty. It's a lovely place to spend a day, especially if you enjoy nature and outdoor activities.
